Description:

Albany Technical College seeks a well-qualified, highly motivated individual to fill the position of assistant men’s basketball coach.  Under general supervision of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for carrying out all practices necessary to accomplish the objectives of this sport within the guidelines of the College, the NJCAA and the GCAA.   The Assistant Coach will be responsible for recruiting highly skilled student-athletes for the basketball team, for orienting student athletes to the policies and regulations of the College, the department of athletics, and the NJCAA and the GCAA.  The assistant coach will participate in the monitoring of academic progress of members of the basketball team,  will participate in fundraising/public relations in support of the athletics program, will oversee conduct and discipline of student athletes, will counsel student athletes in sport participation and will develop, motivate, and assist in the pursuit of academic/athletic excellence.  The Assistant Coach will be responsible for attending all athletic department meetings, or other staff related meetings as required and may be required to drive student athletes or other students to team activities and/or athletic events.  The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach with planning practice, will provide feedback regarding strengths and weaknesses in a participant’s performance and will help to identify areas for further development.  The Assistant Coach will arrive early on the floor to make sure the gym is set for practice, will work with assigned position players, will help the Head Coach with station and drill work, will serve as a buffer between the Head Coach and the players, and will conduct practice scrimmages.  The Assistant Coach will make sure that the gym is picked-up after practice, will assist with game day strategy and half-time adjustments.  The Assistant Coach will be in-charge of pre-game, half-time warm-up drills and preparation, will assist with game plans, and keeping track of pertinent assignments.  The Assistant Coach will scout the opponent as assigned – this may be breaking down video or seeing the opponent in person, will assist the Head Coach with team scrapbook, will call in game scores to the media as needed – especially when playing on the road, break down game film upon request and performs other job related duties as assigned.  He/she should have good oral and written communication skills, and be able to travel to the required games.

Minimum Qualifications:  The applicant MUST possess an Associate’s Degree in an appropriate area of specialization *OR* have two (2) years coaching and program specific skills substantiated by training and/or work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:  The applicant possess a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate area of specialization *OR* have two (2) years coaching and program specific skills substantiated by training and/or work experience.  The applicant must have experience with basketball coaching and/or playing at the high school, college, university, and/or professional level to include demonstrated skill in developing student athletes.  Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
