The incumbent is responsible for coaching student athletes and assisting in the management and administration of the intercollegiate men’s basketball program within the guidelines, rules and regulations of Alcorn State University, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to sit at a work station for extended periods
Occasional ability to lift, carry and put away items weighing up to 25 pounds
Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account
Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place
Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools
Normal dexterity of hands and fingers
Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot
Normal endurance

Essential Job Functions

Assists with year-round recruitment of high school and junior college players, including traveling to prospective games/events, phone calls and letters to both coaches and players
Assists with delivering coaching instructions in a variety of learning styles
Assists with pre/post workouts
Ensures tapes/video equipment are prepared for home and away games and exchange tapes with opponents
Records statistics for each game
Represents Alcorn State University and the Men’s Basketball program in a professional manner
Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
