Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. CUC is a private, Christian university and member of NCAA Division III athletics in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference for Men’s Basketball. This position is responsible for recruitment of qualified student athletes for the basketball program. The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach must be able to recruit academically qualified and athletically competitive student-athletes and possess the ability to motivate them to realize their potential in the classroom and on the basketball court. The Assistant Coach must have clear, concise, and consistent communication with the head coach, as well as follow NCAA Division III and University rules, at all times. This position reports to the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Director of Athletics, and the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, and is located in River Forest, IL.

Responsibilities/Duties:  

  • Creates a detailed and effective recruiting plan, including, but not limited to, organizing and setting up campus visits and itineraries, making daily calls, emails, letters, and recruiting database maintenance
  • Serves as an Academic Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success through supervising team study tables, checking on class attendance, setting up tutoring appointments, and providing additional guidance for other student-athletes
  • Provides extra workouts before or after practice with individual players and implements specific workouts
  • Breaks down film for Concordia and upcoming opponents by analyzing statistics of our team and our opponents, and explains how to incorporate analytics into our program to help improve our efficiency
  • Analyzes data to track, break down, and produce reports
  • Takes on the role of defensive or offensive coordinator
  • Supervises team study tables, checks on class attendance, sets up tutoring appointments, and provides additional guidance, as well as assists in academic student-success for other student-athletes
  • Creates travel itineraries, including hotel accommodations, bus schedule, etc.
  • Assists in practice planning and execution, motivating and challenging our players on a daily basis and tracking points of emphasis
  • Spearheads summer camp instruction and staffing, and helps design and distribute camp brochures, t-shirts
  • Assists in setting up pre-game meals, run-thru practices, travel accommodations, player needs, statistical breakdowns, and any other necessary duties
  • Assists in scheduling, transportation, and post-game meals for the JV program, including head coaching or assisting coaches during games
  • Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS).

Minimum Experience Required: 

  • Playing and/or coaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Must possess a knowledge and understanding of NCAA Division III rules
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • First Aid, AED and CPR certifications, or willingness to secure certifications upon hiring
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Minimum Experience Preferred: 

  • 3+ years of college coaching experience
  • Proficient in Synergy breakdown and analytics
  • Proficient in Front Rush Recruiting Software
  • Proficient in JustPlay Sports Solutions

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
