The Assistant Coach provides instruction to student-athletes.  The Coach is primarily responsible for teaching proper techniques and skill development.  Position responsibilities include planning and executing instructional practice sessions, facilitating discipline-specific individual lessons with student-athletes, and constructing experiential learning opportunities.  Other responsibilities include monitoring academic progress of student athletes, recruitment of student athletes, composing opponent scouting reports and other athletic support functions in preparation and conclusion of the athletic season.  

POSITION FUNCTIONS   

• Coaching: Express independent discretion and judgment as to the manner and method of instruction; facilitate sports-specific individual workout sessions with basketball student athletes; facilitate discipline-specific fundamentals and techniques, physical health, team-concepts, and personal safety; assess and cultivate student-athlete proficiency in key areas.
• Program Support: Evaluate and recruit qualified prospective student athletes; monitor academic progress of basketball student athletes, to include leading study hall sessions and monitoring class attendance; attend and contribute to departmental meetings and campus activities; assist with maintaining daily and yearly inventory of equipment, uniforms and supplies; assist with fund-raising projects for basketball team and the department.
• Planning & Reporting: Create plans for transportation, meals and lodging for the basketball team when traveling for contests; assist with driving of vans to and from competition sites; assist with maintaining accurate records of expenses incurred while working within the provided budget.
• All other duties as assigned
  

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 2 years related experience with at least 1 year of college level athletic experience
• Knowledge and understanding of intercollegiate athletic operations, rules and regulations
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with individuals and groups
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Ability to articulate and model the Concordia University Texas mission, vision and values

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to stand for an extended period of time
• Ability to lift 20-30 pounds
• Non-traditional work hours may be required including evening and weekend hours and travel
• This is a driving position and requires a motor vehicle record (MVR) acceptable to CTX
