This position is responsible for assisting in coaching the colleges men’s basketball program.

Responsibilities

Assists with on-court coaching. (15%)

  • Sets up for practices.
  • Runs drills.
  • Directs team warm-up and stretching.
  • Instructs and motivates players.

Recruits student athletes. (15%)

  • Attends high school games.
  • Evaluates players.
  • Communicates with coaches and players.

Advises and monitors the academic progress of student athletes. (20%)

  • Ensures player progress toward degree completion.
  • Provides advice and support to students.
  • Coordinates community service opportunities for student-athletes.

Assists in the development of game and practice schedules. (15%)

  • Schedules and works with gym supervisors to create practice schedules.
  • Assists in coordinating game schedules.

Assists in coordinating team travel. (5%)

  • Reserves transportation for away games.
  • Prepares expense reports and travel authorizations.
  • Coordinates meals and hotels.

Promotes the basketball program to the campus, news media and community groups. (5%)

  • Speaks to civic organizations.

Performs related duties. (25%)

  • Coordinates team/opponent video exchanges; downloads game recordings to computer.
  • Assists in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the basketball program.

Required Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
  • More than three years of related experience required.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate sports.
  • Knowledge of college-level athletic program management principles.
  • Knowledge of basketball rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the coaching and training of student athletes.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
