Job Summary:

Davis & Elkins College is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable individual for the position of Assistant Basketball Coach. This role involves assisting the head coach in various aspects of the men’s basketball program, including player development, game strategy, scouting, and recruiting. The successful candidate will work closely with student-athletes to enhance their skills, foster teamwork, and promote a positive and competitive team culture. The Assistant Basketball Coach will contribute to the program’s overall success by providing leadership, guidance, and support to the coaching staff and student-athletes.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist the head coach in planning practice sessions to develop players’ skills, teamwork, and overall basketball knowledge.

2. Analyze game footage and scouting reports to help develop game strategies and tactics for upcoming opponents.

3. Collaborate with the coaching staff to design and implement player development programs to enhance individual skills and overall team performance.

4. Aid recruitment by identifying and evaluating potential student-athletes, conducting campus visits, and building relationships with high school coaches and players.

5. Provide mentoring and guidance to student-athletes, promoting their academic success, personal growth, and overall well-being.

6. Assist in organizing and coordinating team travel, equipment management, and other administrative tasks as assigned.

7. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and respect for others.

8. Support fundraising and community engagement efforts to enhance the visibility and support of the basketball program within the college and local community.

9. Adhere to all college, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, ensuring compliance and ethical conduct in all aspects of the program.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree required.

2. Previous coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.

3. Strong knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and player development principles.

4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with student-athletes, coaching, and college staff.

5. Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve their full potential on and off the court.

6. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.

7. Familiarity with video analysis software and scouting tools is desirable.

8. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required for recruiting and team events.

9. Commitment to the academic success and personal growth of student-athletes.

10. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in a team environment.

Compensation:

The Assistant Basketball Coach position at Davis & Elkins College is a part-time position with a stipend of $10,000. There may be opportunities to engage in fundraising activities to earn additional compensation.
