SUMMARY:

Assists the head coach of basketball in all facets of the Men’s basketball program. Given the competitive level of this program, the assistant coach is an essential staff member assisting with recruiting, administrative duties, practice and game preparations, counseling of the student-athlete and scouting opponents. The assistant coach will also have duties as a member of one or more of the department administrative teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant coaches are expected to work in compliance with the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Liberty League and other relevant governing bodies as they pertain to their positions. They are expected to be supportive of the HWS Compliance Coordinator and fully engaged in the Department’s compliance education program.

Coaching

  • Work within the regulations of HWS, the Hobart Department of Athletics, our conferences and the NCAA.
  • Assist in the planning, teaching and supervising of practices and conditioning sessions.
  • Carry out position coaching duties as assigned.
  • Carry out recruiting and administrative duties within the basketball program as assigned.
  • Assist the head coach in the development and implementation of an effective community relations programs.
  • Assist the head coach in the advisement of student athletes and serve as positive role model for the athletes.
  • Assist the head coach in planning and implementing fund raising program.
  • Pursue formal and informal professional development opportunities in the sport of basketball.
  • Work to develop positive communications and report with member of the HWS community, parents, alumni and the community-at-large.

Administrative

  • Extend teamwork, cooperation and respect to all other department staff members.
  • Serve as a member of the department Administrative Teams as assigned (to include event Management).
  • Assist with department special events, such as the Hall of Fame Dinner; Block ‘H’ Dinner, Napier Seminar and SAA Membership Dues.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; playing and/or coaching experience on the college-level highly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate strong potential to teach, lead, and counsel college student-athletes and enthusiasm for the recruiting duties of the position.

OTHER INFORMATION: This is a full-time, 10-month, benefits-eligible administrative salaried/exempt position. Evening and weekend work are required. The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications.
