Lakeland University, an independent, not-for-profit, liberal arts institution, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.

 

The Assistant Coach of Men’s Basketball is responsible for the management and administration of all activities related to the men’s basketball program. The position requires the coach to assist the head coach in recruiting, running practices, individual skill development, fundraising, camps, scouting, academic monitoring, travel logistics, promotional activities, and other related assigned responsibilities. The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach is fully responsible for compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association rules and regulations as well as University policies governing intercollegiate athletics.

 

Reporting to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the Assistant coach responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as a positive role model to our student-athletes on and off the court,
  • Exhibit strong leadership,
  • Strive to develop those leadership capabilities within our student-athletes,
  • Monitor and assist student-athletes with academic success,
  • Effectively recruit quality student-athletes, and
  • Assist the head coach with any/all aspects of the program.
  • Secondary duty will be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience and/or coaching basketball is required.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility and related functions is required
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
  • Ability to effectively manage time and priorities;
  • Ability to prioritize office workflow and make effective administrative decisions to increase efficiency, accuracy, and productivity;
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully and effectively communicate (written and verbal) with a variety of individuals;
  • Strong critical thinking skills;
  • Demonstrates organizational ability, and attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment ;
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Moderate to strenuous physical activity is part of the position. Requires the ability to run at a reasonable pace.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
