Under the direction of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach will aid in all aspects of recruitment, training, and athletic competition of the Men’s Basketball Team. This position will also operate under America East & NCAA bylaws.
Essential Functions:
NCAA Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, regulations, bylaws, constitutions and related university rules, regulations and policies. Coaching Activities: This function finds its incumbent providing a full array of services related to the men’s basketball team. By way of illustration and not limitation, this function:
– Designated responsibilities as given by head coach.
– Assist head coach with management of staff.
– Assists in organizing, preparing and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition. Leads, monitors and coordinates training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
– Assists in the identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes for the men’s intercollegiate basketball program, in accordance with America East & NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines and standards.
– Assist in scheduling all intercollegiate competitions, with approval of head coach and sport administrator.
– Provides guidance, supervision, and assistance to student-athletes on academic progress to remain eligible and positively pursue degree progress. This involves constant contact with The Learning Center.
– Responsible for game scouting of opponents, and assists Head Coach in preparation of game plan for all opponents.
– Primarily responsible for player development for program. Under supervision of the Head Coach, develop training methods to improve the overall skill development of players both in/out of season.
– Provides assistance in the coordination and administration of the program as required.
– Help establish and maintain positive and effective relationship with NJIT Alumni.
– Represents the program to various institutional programs and to government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
– Support the program’s media relations and promotional initiatives.
– Maintain current health care certifications. (First Aid, CPR/AED).
