Under general supervision, the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach aids in establishing a successful Division I Basketball program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assists the head basketball coach in the development and management of the basketball program under the regulations of the university, the NCAA and MAAC

Recruits student athletes for men’s basketball programs

Coaches and advises student athletes

Schedules student athletes and events

Counsels student athletes

Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment;

Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
75% Recruits student athletes for men’s basketball programs.

14% Coaches and advises student athletes. Assists the head basketball coach in the development and management of the basketball program under the regulations of the university, the NCAA and MAAC

10% Schedules student athletes and events

1% Counsels student athletes.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications skills; Working knowledge of recruiting techniques to be used in recruiting student athletes for men’s basketball programs; Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, copy machine and fax; Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone;Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Ability to travel when required; Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business; Working knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:
The functions of the position usually performed standing, but may require some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, involve extensive wrist and hand movement. This position requires traveling. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma with high level amateur or professional playing and/or coaching experience is required; A minimum of three year’s experience performing similar tasks is required; Valid driver’s license is required; License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
