OBU Athletics is looking for an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. We are looking for someone excited about OBU’s mission, basketball, and the coaching philosophy and direction of the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach will grow student athletes’ performance and demonstrate a commitment to live out and advance the OBU mission through the sport of basketball.

Job Role and Responsibility

• Coordinate the recruiting ofstudent-athletes who have ability and potential, athletically and academically, to achieve success at OBU.

• Plan, organize, and supervise a total year-round program for the sport

• Set desired goals for the program

• Attend appropriate conference and other professional meetings as approved by the Director of Athletics

• Plan and coordinate the best utilization of any assistant, graduate assistant, volunteer assistant coaches assigned and assume responsibility for their actions

• Recommend athletic scholarship awards

• Adhere to all policies and procedures of local,state, regional, and national organizations including those of the NCAA and Great American Conference

• Arrange for use of facilities and vehicles through Director of Athletics

• Maintain records of uniforms, equipment & supplies issued during season and submit inventory of same at end of school year to Athletic Director

• Serve the Head Coach as the Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Operations:

o Coordinate all recruiting for the varsity basketball program by making contacts with potential players and arranging campus visits

o Coordinate transportation and travel needs for the Varsity Basketball Team

o Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and supervising the total year-round program for the sport, to include pre and post season practices and games

o In the absence of the Head Coach, be responsible for the Varsity Basketball team or a portion of the team in practice and games

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Ability to communicate information and ideas, orally and in writing; come up with unique or innovative ideas and creative ways to solve problems

• Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

• Must have exceptional follow-up skills for closing communication loops

• Able to handle stressful situations in a fast-paced environment

• Demonstrate strong ability to integrate and collaborate with student athletes, fellow coaches, and OBU staff and faculty

• Demonstrate strong athletic ability and skill in developing student athletic technical ability

• Knowledge of strategic and tactical aspects and frameworks of basketball

• Possess high standards of conduct, appearance, and attitude

• Possess strong analytical skills including identifying indicators of athletic performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, and the use of logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches

• Proficient with Microsoft Office

Qualifications, Experience, and Education

• Required: Bachelor’s Degree

• Required: Basketball coaching experience

• Preferred: Master’s Degree in KALS or related field

• Preferred: Basketball coaching experience at collegiate level
