Description:
The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach with directing, supervising and implementing the duties and functions of the men’s basketball program.
Position Work Calendar *Dependent on Season/Off-Season schedule
Position Work Hours/Week
-In-season hours – 18-20 weeks (depending on post-season play), 12-20 hours per week.
-Off-season recruiting hours – approximately 75 hours total.
Abilities and Skills
-Ability to provide instruction, training, and motivation necessary for the athletes to compete to the best of their ability. (Minimum)
-Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. (Minimum)
-Developed organizational skills. (Minimum)
-Must possess a current driver’s license. (Minimum)
-Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or willing to acquire. (Minimum)
-Ability to work within the parameters established by the Head Coach and within the responsibilities as defined in the position description. (Minimum)
Education
-N.A.
Experience
-Demonstrated expertise in basketball. (Minimum)
-Prior coaching experience at the high school or college level. (Desired)
Responsibilities and Duties
-Be thoroughly familiar and complying with all College, NEAC, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policies and procedures. (Essential)
-Assist in coaching the necessary skills, techniques and physical conditioning sufficient to enable each athlete to compete in the men’s basketball program safely and to the best of his abilities. (Essential)
-Assist with the on-site supervision during all practice and game situations. (Essential)
-Exhibit a high level of expertise in basketball; seek self-improvement when possible. (Essential)
-Report all serious injuries to student athletes to the Director of Athletics within 24 hours of the injury. (Essential)
-Drive a College vehicle to and from sporting events and/or serve as Chaperone during away games, as needed. (Essential)
-Assume Head Coach responsibilities in the short-term absence of the Head Coach. (Essential)
-Ability to recruit and retain high achieving student-athletes. (Essential)
-Engage in all Alumni Men’s Basketball Events. (Essential)
