Position Summary:
The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach will be responsible for assisting the head coach in all facets of the men’s basketball program including teaching the fundamentals of the game; instructing, planning and directing practice and game strategies; advising student-athletes regarding academics; oversite of team travel; and recruiting quality student-athletes that excel both on the court and academically.
Primary Duties:
- This individual will to teach the fundamentals of the game; instruct, plan, organize and implement all practice schedules and game strategies; advise and monitor student-athletes academic progress; oversee team travel schedules;
- Contribute to the building of the competition schedule.
Secondary Duties:
- Additional duties will include supervising study halls, arrangement of travel schedules/meals, and setting up practice times for road trips.
- Ability to successfully recruit highly competitive student athletes.
- Part-time classroom teaching duties based on qualifications.
Additional Duties Include:
- Representing the Athletic Department at professional, civic, charitable, and alumni events, as requested. Promoting the philosophy and objective of the Athletic Department, to include adhering to Athletic Department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, Conference, and the NCAA.
- Responsible for complying with Athletic Department, University, NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
- Cooperate with coaches and administrative staff within the intercollegiate athletics programs to enhance overall departmental operations.
- Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with experience coaching basketball.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Sports Management or Sports Administration with a familiarity and exposure to college basketball.
Knowledge and Skills:
- A demonstrated knowledge of the day to day operations of an athletics department.
- A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
- Experience and competency in a leadership role within the classroom are preferred, and experience with computers and video editing a plus.
