Job Summary

The Student Success Specialist provides programs and services designed to enhance the extracurricular activities for the students of South Georgia State College. He/she is required to participate in activities as necessary which may require travel, including overnight travel. Position requires some flexible work hours including occasional nights and weekends, as needed. Travel may be required to the Douglas campus and other sites as deemed necessary.

Responsibilities

Monitoring Student Athletes’ Academic Performance –
Assist with player management, including both athletic and academic monitoring.

Collaborate with the college faculty to monitor academic progress of student athletes to ensure that athletic eligibility and academic standards are maintained.

On-Court Coaching –
Assists with practice and workouts.

Supervise, Instruct, and train –
Supervise, instruct, and train student-athletes through practices and the monitoring of academic progress and through game-day team management.

Collaborate with the college faculty to monitor academic progress of student athletes to ensure that athletic eligibility and academic standards are maintained.

Directs and oversees planning, implementation, and evaluation of basketball program.

Assist with player management, including both athletic and academic monitoring.

Student Success Activities –
Assists students, college staff, and other members of the community with planning and implementing student activities designed to enhance entertainment and educational offerings for the campus community.

Coordinates, promotes, and supervises campus events such as socials, dances, club showcases, field day events, games, student interest seminars, contests, fund-raisers, trips, community service projects, summer camps and recreational competitions.

NJCAA Compliance –
Assists with the intercollegiate College Sport¿s program within the purposes of the institution and the regulations of the national and state junior college athletic associates and the rules and regulations of the conference.

Adhere to all NJCAA rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics and the sport of basketball.

Report game statistics to the NJCAA Sports Information Webpage.

Budget Management –
Assists clubs and organizations with preparing and monitoring budgets.

Plans, processes, and accounts for budgets for events, supplies and contracts supporting the college’s student success mission.

Advises –
Advises Student Government Association and other groups to promote inter-group sponsorship of events.

Student Conduct Investigator –
Serves as a Student Conduct Investigator as necessary.

Other Duties –
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or Head Coach

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience
One year or more Assistant Coaching experiences.

Proposed Salary – $39,236.46 plus Benefits

Ability to successfully plan, market, and implement relevant programming for students.

Ability to produce and maintain records and reports.

Proficiency in computer applications.

Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and to deal with coworkers, students, faculty and staff tactfully and courteously in order to maintain effective service-oriented relationships.

Conditions of Employment

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.  Position may require credit check (if using PCard, working with cash, etc.).
The position requires completion of SGSC annual compliance training course such as State Business Transactions, Drug free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interests/Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Contracts 101.
Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Workers Compensation.
