Description:

The University of Iowa Athletics Department seeks applications for a self-motivated, results-oriented individual with the knowledge, ability and interpersonal skills required to serve as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.  This is a full-time position, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes full University benefits. Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will assist in the coaching and administration of a Division I men’s intercollegiate basketball program, recruit as permitted by NCAA rules and perform other duties as assigned by the head coach.

 

Note to Candidate: This position requires frequent travel, work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays. Five professional references will be required at a later step in the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be subject to a credential and criminal background check and driving record review.

Required qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent);
  • Minimum of three years of recent NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball coaching experience and/or a combination of 10 or more years NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball operations and collegiate or professional basketball playing experience;
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I men’s basketball rules and regulations;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as demonstrated through public speaking engagements, clinician experience, and/or use of effective and creative training/coaching techniques;
  • Ability to work constructively and collaboratively in a diverse environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a highly-regulated team environment;
  • A valid U.S. driving license and the ability to meet The University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standards.

 

Desired qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in domestic and international talent assessment and proven ability to successfully recruit elite level men’s basketball student-athletes;
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program;
  • Demonstrates proficiency and ability to:
    • utilize Sports Tec video analysis system;
    • utilize an online recruiting database (please specify system used);
    • maintain productive, long-term relationships with staff, students, prospect’s coaches, and patrons.
