The Associate Director, Basketball Operations is responsible for performing administrative aspects of daily basketball operations including, but not limited to coordinating video projects, directing student managers, coordinate recruiting mail out system, official visits and occasional special events.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. 1. Manages all aspects of the Men’s Basketball Film Exchange Program
a. Build and maintain a working relationship with other NCAA Basketball Programs, providing direct customer service when necessary.
b. Identify and resolve challenges to delivery of quality customer service, resolving situations within own authority, involving others as appropriate to maintain professional image of the University of Miami and the Men’s Basketball Program.
c. Practice own discretion to dub tapes for exchange with opposing teams and within Atlantic Coast Conference guidelines.
d. Utilizes DVSport software to copy and send out Miami game films to requesting institutions.
e. As a representative of the Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff, request and obtain game films from other institutions.
f. Responsible for taping all opponent games and other college basketball games as requested.
2. Coordinate and supervise all video and computer operations for Men’s Basketball.
a. Utilize DVSport software to break down games for analysis.
b. Input all plays into computer.
c. Self scout University of Miami basketball team videos for offensive and defensive sets, special strategies and individual players’ tendencies.
d. Practice own discretion to dub practice and game tapes individually for each coach.
e. Maintain current video and computer hardware and advise department on existing equipment and possible future upgrades.
f. Negotiates the purchase of office supplies and equipment and oversees receiving and shipping units of video equipment.
g. Transport, set up and monitor video equipment for meeting, practices and games at home and on the road.
3. Manages the Recruiting Mail out System.
a. Oversees the distribution of printed materials including the creation and design of printed materials used by Men’s Basketball Operations.
b. Follow up on recruiting questionnaires and unsolicited game tapes that come into the Basketball office.
c. Daily Maintenance of recruiting database.
4. Manages all incoming PSA videos for the Men’s Basketball Program.
a. Manage the inventory of prospective student athlete videos including collection and organization.
b. Inputs all tapes and plays into computer system using DVSport software.
c. Dubs and cues videos to important scenes, using personal discretion, that will assist the Men’s Basketball Coaching staff’s review and recruiting efforts.
d. Creates duplicates and coordinates the distribution of PSA videos to appropriate coaches.
e. Use knowledge of NCAA Rules and Regulations in regards to recruiting videos and their distribution to ensure that recruiting videos are only analyzed by authorized individuals in the Basketball Program.
5. Manage and direct activities of student managers that assist with the daily operations of the basketball video operations.
a. Trains student managers in standard operating procedures during games and daily operations of the men’s basketball program as it relates to video.
b. Organizes meetings and delegates duties for office work and game day activities including, but not limited to, the filming of practices or games.
c. Provide important training and direction in the compliance of NCAA Rules and Regulations as it relates to filming and recruiting video review. Following up to ensure that all regulations concerning filming and videos are followed.
6. Completes special assignments which require collecting, organizing and analyzing data and producing reports which may be the basis of significant decisions by Director of Basketball Operations and the Head Men’s Basketball Coach. This includes conducting online research for the latest updates on NCAA compliance, recruits, competition and general information available on the University of Miami website.
7. Coordinate and schedule individual instruction groups for off season practices. Be available to show players film, should they make such a request.
8. Coordinates recruiting weekend and planning of official visit weekends. This may include, but is not limited to:
a. Set up itinerary and coordinates transportation of recruits and parents.
b. Monitors and verifies that all official visit accommodations are within compliance of the NCAA rules; making recommendations as appropriate.
9. Coordinates the management of an annual “Coaches Clinic.”
a. Providing detailed information on the event.
b. Oversees pre-registration and day of the event registration.
c. General clinic day duties including coordination of events and setup.
10. Liaison, along with Director of Basketball Operations, to trainer regarding schedule of medical exams prior to practice season and drug testing in season.
11. Coordinate and create highlight videos as requested.
12. Travel to all away contests.
13. Responsible for maintaining compliance with NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference, institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
14. Other duties as assigned by Director of Basketball Operations and Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
