Description:

Under general supervision, the Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach assists the head coach in developing student-athletes academically and athletically for the Men’s basketball program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist the head Men’s basketball head coach in the development and management of the program under the regulations of the university, the NCAA and MAAC.
  • Will act as secondary program connection, when the head coach is unavailable, for conference affairs: conference calls, email correspondence, etc.
  • Recruiting – Evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes.
  • Scouting – Guide and lead our staff in self and opponent scouts
  • Basketball – Defensive coordinator. Construct practice plans for the team. Implement strategies for our student-athletes before, during and after games.
  • Camp – Assist in operations of summer camps
  • Development – Creating an environment that will help student-athletes be successful on and off the court
  • Academics – Serve as a liaison for student-athletes. In addition, Serve as the program’s primary contact with the admissions office.
  • Compliance – Abiding by NCAA legislation in all facets of the program. Serve as the primary contact with the compliance office.
  • Team building and leadership development – Guide and organize campus relations and community events for our team.
  • Social Media – Assist in marketing and branding the program
  • Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

% of Time

60% Provide teaching and instruction as well as individual team instruction for the fundamentals of basketball and developing skills. Assist the head coach in the development and management of the program under the regulations of the university, the NCAA and MAAC.

30% Lead the recruiting efforts of prospective student-athletes for the program. 30% Student-athlete development off the court

10% All other duties assigned by the Head Coach

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1) Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

2) Experience and working knowledge of recruiting and coaching techniques used with student-athletes

3) Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

4) Proficiency in handling various systems, programs, and technology

5) Ability to use a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The functions of the position are usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • Bachelor degree in related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • At least several years of experience coaching basketball at the high school, college or higher competitive level
  • A valid New York State driver’s license is required that satisfies both University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a motor vehicle. Must also be able to operate a motor vehicle in Canada.
