Description:

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Athletics and Student Life, in addition to serving as head men’s basketball coach, this position will also be responsible for developing and implementing targeted athletic fundraising events within the framework of the College’s overall fundraising priorities and strategies, in coordination with the Peninsula College Foundation. Admin/Exempt position with separate part-time teaching contract for advanced basketball courses and basketball officiating.

Athletic Development Coordinator Essential Functions

  • Serve as Athletic Department lead in the coordination and evaluation of fund raising efforts.
  • Collaborate with the college’s Foundation to provide a comprehensive fund raising effort that ranges from booster donations, to corporate sponsorships, to fund-raising events.
  • Secure gifts for capital, program and endowment needs from individuals, businesses, corporations and other potential gifting sources.
  • Track and account for contributions to athletic programs, in coordination with the Foundation.
  • Operational responsibility, including accountability for the fiscal targets, as the campus lead on Pirate Casino Night, Pirate Golf Tournament and future events to be developed.
  • Enhance and coordinate fundraising efforts of team-specific initiatives with the Foundation and Conferences and Institutes.
  • Coordinate athletic public relations activities, in coordination with our Public Relations Director and Marketing Director.
  • Coordinate donor recognition, in coordination with the Foundation.

Head Coach Essential Functions

  • Prepare athletes for competition. Ensure athletes have fulfilled preliminary requirements prior to first practice; teach physical conditioning relative to basketball; teach and coach fundamentals of basketball; develop and enforce a code of ethics.
  • Recruit quality student athletes. Seek to recruit top student/athletes; comply with all Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) recruiting guidelines.
  • Coordinate Letters of Intent and scholarship awards. Work with athletic director to determine which athletes will receive letters of intent and the scholarship amount each is to receive within NWAC guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with eligibility regulations. Stay current on eligibility regulations; inform athletes of eligibility requirements.
  • Coordinate scheduling and travel for athletic events: Assist in scheduling athletic events and coordinating travel arrangements; assume responsibility for reporting team scores to the NWAC office.
  • Teach men’s basketball classes and other classes as assigned.

Duties of the position require knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Broad understanding of the sport of college basketball with emphasis on recruiting, skill development, teaching sportsmanship and life skills, and the ability to help players advance to the next level.

Duties of the position require previous experience

  • College men’s basketball coaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Head coaching experience, fund raising experience.

Required physical abilities

  • The ability to demonstrate basketball techniques, lead conditioning exercises, minor lifting, driving vans, and sitting for long periods while traveling.

Required work schedule and work environment

  • Flexible work schedule that involves working nights and weekends.

Required education or certificates

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred education or certificates

  • Master’s degree.

Employment Terms

  • Annual full time, exempt position.
  • Starting salary: $40,000 – $50,000 DOE.
