Description:

The director, men’s basketball operations is responsible for all men’s basketball operations including on-air broadcasting of all home and road games, managing travel for 15 players and 10 coaches/administrators/students, managing the student-athlete basketball life skills and players’ development, and coordinating special events for the program.

S/he will also manage recruiting records in accordance with NCAA regulations for recruiting of student-athletes, manage booster functions for donors (including dinner meetings, fund raising events, etc.), and coordinate speaking engagements for head coach.

The incumbent will serve as a representative of the University, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Rice community and with the public.

Bachelor’s Degree

Master’s degree preferred.

  • Some fundraising and marketing experience

    • – Experience organizing and planning college basketball team travel, including but not limited to: manifests, meals, shoot-a-rounds, ground transportation and accounting

Skills Required
  • Must have proficient in all forms of computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft, Excel, File Maker, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Oral and Written communication skills
  • Experience working with budgets, writing, editing, publishing newsletters, and creating master calendar’s for a basketball program
  • Active knowledge of NCAA Rules and Regulations
Internal / External Contacts

Internal: The incumbent has contact with the Athletic department including the athletic business office, academic coordinator, and student organizations.

External: The incumbent has extensive interaction with donors, Board of Trustees, parents, alumni, and media.
