This position exists to provide direct assistance to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach with the day-to-day non-coaching responsibilities. This position will be expected to work directly with the head coach and other support staff areas within the department to manage the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program. This position exists to assist the head coach with team scheduling, team travel to handle all flight reservations, accommodations, team meals, transportation and finances as well as to insure all proper travel documents are prepared by Executive Assistant.

The Director of Basketball Operations will be responsible for assisting with the head coach’s social media as well as assisting with monitoring the player’s social media. This position is expected to assist the video coordinator as needed. This position will be the men’s basketball campus liaison. (i.e. attend campus and department events). This position will maintain and submit accurate practice and playing logs for NCAA compliance. This position will be the liaison between men’s basketball and any compliance related issues and communication for men’s basketball. This position is expected to oversee facilities and facility upgrades, and student-athlete housing. This position is expected to oversee all player communication with regard to class schedule, weights, practice and community outreach opportunities. This position will oversee admission for incoming players and working closely with the men’s basketball academic advisor to ensure all proper admission paperwork is submitted.

This position is expected to assist in the recruiting process with official and unofficial visits to help attract student-athletes who understand the overall academic and athletic mission of UNLV as well as help create and maintain an environment that enables student-athletes to excel academically, athletically and socially. This position is responsible for maintaining the balance of loyalty and team building in order to continue to develop a positive environment for the student-athletes, community and the University. The head coach will assign the Director of Basketball Operations responsibilities that are deemed necessary to effectively develop and enhance the overall philosophy of the head coach.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and three (3) years of comparable professional experience at the collegiate level or higher. In addition, qualified applicants must possess:

• An understanding of the game of basketball.
• Knowledge of all applicable NCAA rules and regulations.
• Managerial and organization skills related to office, travel, game scheduling.
• Computer program skills such as electronic mail, word process, etc.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and positively influence student-athletes in academics as well as in Men’ basketball.
• Ability to maintain a professional attitude in stressful situations.
• Strong community relations skills to develop and foster university, community, and student relations.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and social-economic backgrounds.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
