The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Dir of Recruiting- Men’s Basketball. UC San Diego Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence, sponsors 23 varsity sports, and is reclassifying to NCAA Division I as a member of the Big West Conference. Triton Athletics consistently ranks as one of the most successful athletic programs, ranking among the top 7 nationally in the Learfield Director’s Cup on 13 different occasions and has finished second overall three times.

Reporting to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the Director of Recruiting is responsible for planning the collective recruiting strategy for the Men’s Basketball program. The major focus of the position will be the overall branding and positioning of the team. Additionally, it will have a specific emphasis on the recruitment of potential Men’s Basketball student-athletes. Ensures that recruiting processes align with current and future needs as stated by the coaching staff while working to maintain compliance within the NCAA rules. Develops the most effective, economical, and appropriate recruiting channels and methods. Manage and supervise all activities related to Men’s Basketball recruiting. Responsible for working with the coaching staff and a variety of fans, alumni, and booster groups that support the men’s basketball program, and coordinating all men’s basketball recruiting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  2. Thorough knowledge of program activity and best practices. Experience and knowledge of working in an intercollegiate basketball program in an operations position. Experience in all recruiting aspects of the Men’s Basketball program.
  3. Problem-solving skills; multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, and effective listener. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to identify and implement methods, procedures, and policies. Ability to use good judgment for problem solving.
  4. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Demonstrated ability to convey technical information and provide guidelines in a clear and professional manner, using diplomacy, tact and discretion in all interactions. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals across the range of academic and professional backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, cultures and other personal factors, both inside and outside the organization.
  5. Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Demonstrated experience using applications, spreadsheets, databases, networks and software packages specific to the field and sport. Applications such as: JumpForward, Photoshop, SportsCode, Dropbox, Synergy, Quickdraw, etc.
  6. Demonstrated ability to use good judgment for problem solving; ability to asses data and situations and provide recommendations based on findings; ability to be proactive to avoid potential problems.
  7. Strong organizational skills including ability to prioritize time, plan, and follow projects through to completion. Strong demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment with numerous interruptions and fluctuating priorities. Ability to develop and adjust routines and procedures as needed. Ability to meet established deadlines, with attention to detail and a keen focus on quality.
  8. Proven ability to accurately and thoroughly complete electronic documents, with conscious attention to detail, and identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems or discrepancies.
  9. Demonstrated ability to follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.
  10. Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards. Understanding and adherence to all Big West Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
