Description:

The Director of Sports Performance for Men’s Basketball serves as the primary sports performance coach to men’s basketball student-athletes in addition to another varsity athletic program. The primary function of this position is the management of athletic performance preparation including, but not limited to, the application of appropriate motivational techniques, implementation of evidence-based training methods, and safe and correct execution of the following training parameters: power development, plyometric and agility training, energy system development and sport specific movement training. Having a dual report to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Associate AD for Sport Performance, this position will design athletic enhancement programs with an emphasis on individual as well as team specific needs and report on progress. The individual serving in this position will provide support to the Associate AD for Sport Performance and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
2-5 years of experience with Men’s Basketball at the collegiate or professional level.

  • Develop and implement strength and conditioning program for men’s basketball student-athletes in addition to another varsity athletic program.
  • Create and direct basketball specific speed, quickness, and agility workouts. To instruct the safe and correct execution of flexibility, plyometrics, Olympic lifts, and speed development exercises for men’s basketball.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals to rehabilitate student-athletes following any injuries.
  • To assist student-athletes through strength and conditioning/sports performance program to prepare them for competition in local, regional and national arenas.
  • Ensure the minimization of risk and severity of potential injuries through appropriate program design.
  • Design athletic enhancement programs with an emphasis on individual as well as team specific needs and report on progress. Implement year-round nutritional programs working with nutritionist/dietician for men’s basketball student-athletes.
  • Promote execution of the Athletic Department’s strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values, and acting upon its goals and strategies.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, including CPR and first aid.
  • Performing all duties in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned.
