The goal of the Director of Sports Performance for Men’s Basketball is to provide VCU men’s basketball student-athletes with all necessary resources to achieve success in athletic competition. Student-athletes will also maximize their potential through the development of their character, work ethic, and self-discipline. Additionally, this position will instruct student-athletes in the safe and correct execution of flexibility, plyometrics, Olympic lifts, speed development exercises, and provide safe procedures for strengthening and conditioning men’s basketball student-athletes.

Position Responsibilities

– Develop and implement strength training program for men’s basketball student-athletes.
– Ensure the minimization of risk and severity of potential injuries through appropriate program design.
-Collaborate with medical professionals to rehabilitate student-athletes following any injuries.
– Create and direct basketball specific speed, quickness, and agility workouts.
– Implement year-round nutritional programs for men’s basketball student-athletes.
– Promote execution of the Athletic Department’s strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values, and acting upon its goals and strategies.
– To instruct the safe and correct execution of flexibility, plyometrics, Olympic lifts, and speed development exercises for men’s basketball.
– To assist student-athletes through strength and conditioning to prepare them for competition in local, regional and national arenas.
– Knowledge of emergency procedures, including CPR and first aid.
– Recognition of the symptoms and behaviors of student-athletes who may be using illegal performance-enhancing substances.
– Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
– Background in strength and conditioning required at the NCAA Division I level.
– Must have an advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.
– A valid driver’s license recognized by VA is required.

Preferred Qualifications

– Minimum of four (4) years’ experience at the NCAA Division I level preferred.
– Strength & Conditioning experience with the sport of men’s basketball.
