The Director, Youth Basketball Development will be a critical member of the Jr. NBA team and will play a leadership role in helping to drive the Jr. NBA’s work to grow and improve youth basketball. This new position will contribute across several areas of the Jr. NBA initiative – including developing/managing Jr. NBA programming and events; helping to grow the Jr. NBA network; and partnering with key internal and external stakeholders to improve the youth basketball experience for players, parents, and coaches.
This position will also be an important liaison to the grassroots youth basketball community and will help the Jr. NBA expand its relationships across the youth basketball landscape, including in elite youth basketball.
Major Responsibilities:
• Lead development and execution of Jr. NBA programming and grassroots event platforms, to include Jr. NBA camps and clinics, tournaments, skills challenges, combines, coach’s clinics, and character development programming.
• Develop new programming with key marketing and community partners designed to support and improve the youth basketball experience for kids, coaches, and parents.
• Oversee Jr. NBA team operations, managing budgets and staffing/project plans associated with key Jr. NBA programs and events. Monitor and ensure quality control for all Jr. NBA operations.
• Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth, and lead measurement and reporting of key Jr. NBA metrics.
• Help grow Jr. NBA network through new and expanded relationships with large youth basketball organizations and facilities.
• Identify areas where Jr. NBA can drive positive change in youth basketball by establishing standards, creating appropriate incentives, and partnering with leading organizations including USA Basketball. Support existing efforts and drive new initiatives designed to positively shape youth basketball environment.
• Support development of Jr. NBA content and curriculum, including instructional resources for coaches and players.
Required Experience & Knowledge:
• Extensive operational experience, including project and event management expertise, with a track record of leading large-scale grassroots and/or community activations.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, exercise flexibility as needed, and demonstrate sound professional judgment at all times.
• Extensive experience and relationships in grassroots sports (and specifically youth basketball) is highly valued.
• Ability to communicate clearly, professionally and persuasively (both verbally and in written form).
• Demonstrated capacity to think creatively and take appropriate risks.
• Strong interpersonal skills; excellent at building and maintaining professional relationships.
• Ability to mentor and lead employees.
• Experience managing program budgets.
Educational Background Required:
• 4-Year College degree required
