The Southland Conference, based in suburban north Dallas, and serving ten NCAA Division I member institutions in Texas and Louisiana, is seeking applicants and nominations for the position of General Manager of Basketball Under the direction of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners, the General Manager of Basketball shall be available to the Southland Conference (“Conference”) as an independent contractor to oversee administrative duties for the Conference’s men’s basketball and secondary on the women’s basketball programs. The professional responsibilities for this assignment include, but are not limited to, the following in concert with the Southland’s constitution, bylaws, and operating code:

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Conference Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners with day-to-day basketball administrative and management operations during 2023-24 basketball season; • Work and collaborate with other Conference staff to ensure proper basketball operations, including but not limited to issues related to gameday procedures, health/safety protocols, instant replay, film exchange, television planning, NCAA communications, and media services; • Develop the Conference basketball schedule in collaboration with media partners and the Conference Scheduler; • Serve as a primary liaison to Conference’s officiating program, including frequent communications with coordinator of basketball officials; • Serve as a primary contact for campus coaches, administrators, and the Basketball Advisory Subcommittee and establish success strategies via monthly meetings; • Identify, develop and execute innovative strategies for the purpose of enhancing and promoting Southland Basketball; • Assist in managing operations for the Southland Basketball Tournament and other related events; • As necessary, communicate with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, NCAA Basketball staff and the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship Committee; • Comply with all NCAA, Southland regulations and policies; • Attend Conference meetings, Conference and Non-Conference basketball games at each member institution and events as requested by the Commissioner; • Other duties as assigned.

General Knowledge: • Effective and professional communication, both orally and in writing. • Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends. • Able to lead and facilitate group meetings. • Ability to assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to championship operations.

Other Information: The Conference offers a flexible work structure; however, the successful candidate must reside in the Southland geographic footprint. Review of  applicants will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.
