Description:
Dakota Wesleyan University is accepting applications for the position of Graduate Assistant in the Men’s Basketball program.
This 10-month (August-May), part-time position reports to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform 20-30 hours per week and other related duties as assigned by the head men’s basketball coach
  • Assist at with all aspects of conducting a varsity practice
  • Coach, develop practice plans and operate the junior varsity team during games and practices
  • Assist in organizing and operating youth camps
  • Overseeing student assistants and their responsibilities
  • Assisting coaches with scouting, breaking down film using Synergy
  • Assist in individual workouts and support staff in any related practice duties throughout the year
  • Keep inventory and organize all gear and equipment, including communicating with gear Rep
  • Meal coordination and team operations during travel and while in town
  • Other duties as assigned by the coaching staff and assist with recruiting prospective student-athletes to DWU
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree completed from an accredited university (2.7+ GPA needed in Bachelor’s degree completion)
  • High motivation and commitment to the University, dedication to the team/staff organizational skills, the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines, work without direct supervision, multi-task, problem solve, trustworthy, mature and relatable to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • Admission acceptance as a full-time student in DWU’s Master of Education program, effective Fall 2024
  • Dakota Wesleyan University offers a Master of Arts degree in Education with a concentration in either Educational Policy and Administration or Athletics and activities administration.
  • First aid and CPR/AED certified (Training can be provided if needed after hire and acceptance to MA program)
  • Must be authorized to work in the US. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Valid US Driver License or ability to obtain a valid US driver license for driving of team personnel.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Preferred candidates (one or more of the following characteristics)
    1. College playing experience from a 4-year college or university
    2. Multiple years of managerial experience while an undergraduate student, supporting a university’s men’s or women’s basketball program
    3. Former high school coach that desires to break into college basketball coaching
    4. College coach looking to complete a master’s degree program to advance career
  • A two-year commitment is desired, renewed after one year based on satisfactory academic and work-related performance (August 1st  – May 30th annually)

Compensation
Full tuition covered for graduate-level classes, $3,000 stipend for the 10-months and a commuter student meal plan through the university dining services.
– Locating off-campus housing is the responsibility of the selected candidate (on-campus housing is not an option)
A two-year commitment is preferred, renewed after one year based on satisfactory academic and work-related performance.
