Avila University, a NAIA member institution is seeking applicants for the position of Graduate Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. The responsibilities of the assistant coach is to support the head coach in all phases of a highly competitive Division I men’s basketball program including, but not limited to: practice, game preparation, conducting and planning training and conditioning schedules, team travel, teaching basketball fundamentals and strategies to student-athletes, and academic monitoring and mentoring. Irregular work hours such as weekends, holidays, and/or evenings may be needed.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree, previous college basketball playing experience, and acceptance (or ability to be accepted) into the Avila University graduate program. Preference is given to those that have collegiate experience and/or 1-2 years at the club level or above. Candidates must have an understanding of the mission of Avila University, strong communication skills, and proven commitment to student-athletes and hard work. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university required, excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail and experience in working with a diverse population.

Appointment Date

Appointment for the full range of duties will begin August 1, 2016.  However, appointment for purposes of working with head coach may occur sooner.
