This position is for a Men’s Basketball Graduate Assistantship at St. Mary’s University.  St. Mary’s University Athletics is a NCAA Division II program that has 11 competing men’s and women’s sports as well as a varsity esports team that will compete in the NACE.  The Graduate Assistant for Men’s Basketball works under the supervision of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

Responsibilities:

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Representing St. Mary’s University
  • Assisting the head coach with the administration and leadership of the Men’s Basketball program
  • Providing coaching and instruction during training and practice activities
  • Recruiting and retaining students for the Men’s Basketball program
  • Assisting with team travel
  • Assisting with strength and conditioning activities
  • Practice planning and preparation
  • Video analysis
  • Helping ensure team compliance with all NCAA and Lone Star Conference rules and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, you must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous basketball coaching experience or playing experience on collegiate level (preferred but not required)
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Fundamental computer skills

Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, twist, balance, and work at a desk, to include pushing and pulling cabinet drawers. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and respond to visual and aural cues. Must have manual dexterity to be able to perform high-intensity drills and operate the following equipment: computer, basketball equipment, and telephone. Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols and eye/and coordination. Must be able to tolerate areas containing second hand smoke and an environment with moderate to loud noise levels.

 

Travel Requirements: Required to travel with men’s basketball team

 

Benefits:  

-Stipend:  Negotiable for 10 months (August 2020 – May 2021*). Position can be renewed for a second year if successful candidate meets or exceeds expectations during 2020-2021 academic year.

Credit Hours:  18 hours of graduate classes per year (nine per semester)

*Hiring and start date are contingent upon Fall 2020 Athletics competition starting in August as scheduled
