The primary responsibility of the Head Men’s Head Basketball Coach is instructing student-athletes in the performance of the sport of basketball. To that end, they are responsible for the organization, direction, and administration of the men’s basketball program, including the implementation and maintenance of standards of academic and athletic excellence. The Men’s Head Basketball Coach must have a thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance with the rules, regulations and policies of Morehead State University and the NCAA and Ohio Valley Conference.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructs student-athletes on how to perform their sport.

Maintains knowledge and rules of the NCAA in all aspects as it relates to this position.

Responsible for the complete operation of an NCAA Division I program, including staff selection and supervision, scheduling, recruiting, and academic progress of student athletes.

Must be involved in development and planning of fund raising activities and be able to promote the best interests of the University by developing and maintaining effective relationships with faculty, staff, players, other students, administrators, the community, secondary school personnel, and media.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports directly to the Director of Athletics; then to Vice President for Student Success, President. Works with and supervises Assistant Basketball Coaches, Graduate Assistants and Secretary. Interaction with Associate Director of Athletics, Assistant Director of Athletics, Compliance and Educational Services Director, Athletic Training staff, Sports Information staff, student/athletes, media, faculty, and other staff members.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and coaching experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for coaching experience. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and compliance issues concerning the administration of intercollegiate athletics.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

Successful coaching experience at the collegiate level. Significant experience with recruiting student-athletes that have been successful both academically and athletically. Excellent communications and organizational skills. Master’s degree.
