The Head Coach is responsible for the daily operation of the designated sport.  The major goal is to ensure a quality program that reflects the Mission of Rowan College at Burlington County. The most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the college community.

It is an expectation that all head coaches will conduct themselves as professionals in all interactions with RCBC employees, students, and members of the community, including parents of student athletes.  In addition, head coaches should be accountable and take responsibility for one’s own conduct as well as the conduct of RCBC’s student-athletes with respect to promoting good sportsmanship and respect for the game.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

 Coaching Duties

  1. Assume full responsibility for coaching and training the men’s basketball team members during both the scheduled seasons.
  2. Ensure strict compliance with the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics of the NJCAA Region XIX, Garden State Athletic Conference and the policies and procedures of Rowan College at Burlington County.
  3. Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student athletes and work to encourage sound academic performance and successful progress toward completion of graduation requirements.
  4. Work closely with the Athletics Coordinator in solving and preventing academic problems and, provide academic support information resources to student athletes on team.
  5. Enforce all aspects of academic monitoring programs, priority scheduling coordination, class attendance policies and other academic policies and support initiatives.
  6. Develop and maintain a competitive team with a goal of a winning record & postseason opportunities.

 Administrative Duties

  1. Establish and maintain an effective system of communication and record keeping with student athletes on team as well as with the Athletic Department and college faculty/staff as appropriate and necessary.
  2. Supervise assistant coach and any student workers or volunteers who are associated with the team and ensure compliance with rules and regulations of NJCAA Region XIX, GSAC and RCBC; and carryout a performance evaluation of assistant coach at season end.
  3. Complete the schedule of games and finalization of all required records including a complete inventory of issued equipment.
  4. Conduct oneself in a professional manner in all interactions with RCBC employees, students, members of the community, as well as public news media and College Public Information Office.
  5. Responsible for compliance with College travel and fundraising policies/procedures and for the conduct and appearance of the team when traveling as representatives of RCBC.
  6. Transport student-athletes to all team events.  Coaches must have a valid driver’s license on record and must consent to disclosure and review of their current driving abstract before final approval as a RCBC coach and driver is decided.
  7. Report to the Director of Athletics and carry out other related duties as assigned and required.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Required: 
Associates degree required

Minimum Experience Preferred:
Bachelors preferred.

Minimum Experience Required: 
Minimum 3 years coaching experience, preferably at the high school or college level

Certifications and Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of the sport and current coaching techniques
CPR/First Aid Certified
Valid driver’s license
