Description:

The Men’s Basketball Coach/Instructor will adhere to the policies and guidelines as specified by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the College Policies and Procedures Manual. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director. Duties and responsibilities will include the following essential functions:
-Complete basketball budget and pay all budget items in cooperation with College business office.
-Teach physical education activity courses and other courses per semester/term as assigned.
-Demonstrate proper sportsmanship and respect for players, opponents, fans, and other coaches.
-Maintain good public relations with media, boosters, advisory committee members, parents, officials, players, community, etc.
-Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
-Serve as a positive role model for students, coaching staff, and the community.
-Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for the community college environment.
-Monitor athletes’ class attendance, grades and personal conduct.
-Respond promptly to player injuries and report injuries to athletic director and administration in a timely manner.
-Work effectively with student athletes of varying abilities, social, economic, and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.
-Demonstrate knowledge, adhere to and keep abreast of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Alabama Community College Conference policies, rules and regulations.
-Provide game results to the media; keep season and game-by-game statistics and records; provide statistical reports to Athletic Director, Program Director, and Alabama Community College Conference as needed and/or requested.
-Apply discipline in a positive, firm and consistent manner according to policy.
-Engage in a continuous process of updating program activities, and services to best meet the needs of the community.
-Schedule games with consideration for other campus and athletic department events.
-Coach all aspect of men’s basketball.
-Coach weight training, conditioning, and practice.
-Schedule transportation to ballgames.
-Stay abreast of the latest information on coaching, attend coaching clinics, attend mandatory ACCC meetings.
-Maintain equipment room and locker room.
-Maintain an active schedule to recruit prospective players, contact high school coaches, attend high school tournaments, conduct tryouts, visit prospective players and parents, tour campus with prospective players and parents, assist out of town players to relocate, aid in students’ enrollment, ensure player eligibility.
-Coordinate officials, score keepers, and announcers for home games.
-Order uniforms, supplies, and equipment.
-The ability to teach effectively.
-Planning, organizing, and instructing courses in the day, evening, or on weekends on any Faulkner State campus as assigned.
-Keeping active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulating enthusiasm for those subjects.
-Recommending textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to Division Chairs. Related functions include participating in the College’s library collection development by selecting, evaluating, and weeding library resources in each appropriate discipline.
-Keeping students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
-Submitting annual program budgets to the Division Chair and working closely with the appropriate Division Chair on the development of annual Division budgets for approval by the appropriate Dean.
-Conducting class evaluations and completing other College evaluations in accordance with College policy.
-Assisting with registration.
-Assisting in recruitment and retention of students.
-Serving as academic advisor to assigned students.
-Posting and maintaining office hours for student consultations.
-Ensuring that assigned classes are held as scheduled.
-Holding the final exam at the time scheduled in the College’s Semester Schedule.
-Striving for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the College.
-Referring to counselors (including Student Support Services) reports on all students who are in need of counseling.
-Filing an appropriate course syllabus or course outline with the appropriate Dean for each course taught.
-Submitting required reports, keeping accurate class rolls, and submitting attendance verification as required to the appropriate administrative personnel.
-Attending all faculty meetings, College assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, appropriate Dean, or Division Chair.
-Planning each unit or lesson, both as to content and method, to make each class minute meaningful.
-Organizing each course taught into an effective instrument of learning.
-Studying and utilizing the characteristics of the students in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations.
-Maximizing the learning opportunities for each student.
-Keeping informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities.
-Demonstrating a genuine concern for each student through personal conferences and the full utilization of the Faculty Advisement System.
-Making suggestions to the Division Chair, the Instructional Affairs Committee, and the Dean of Instruction concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the objectives of the College.
-Becoming thoroughly familiar with all college policies and procedures and complying with all college policies and procedures.
-Serving on and providing information to College committees as needed.
-Being actively involved in the co-curricular activities of the College.
-Lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects within safety limits.
-Assuming other work related responsibilities as assigned by the Division Chair, appropriate Dean, the President or his designee.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, appropriate Dean, Vice President or President.
