The Men’s Basketball Head Coach is responsible for all team activities of the men’s basketball program. This position is also responsible for recruitment for the team to ensure that all team athletes are certified to participate, according to all institutional guidelines. Other duties include planning and organizing all team activities, such as practices, team workouts and other events.

The Development Coordinator is responsible for meeting annual Athletic Department fundraising goals set by the Athletic Director. This position is also responsible for coordinating the signage and sponsorship sales for the department and hosting an annual golf tournament.

The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for providing community engagement opportunities to coaches and staff members. This position is also responsible for tracking when teams are out in the community and work with the Champions of Character Coordinator and Sports Information Director to publicize the department’s community engagement activities.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Knowledge and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an athletic instructor for the team sport.
  • Teach proper skills and skill development to student athletes.
  • Must plan and execute an annual summer golf tournament for the Athletic Department. A monetary expectation to be raised will be set by athletic administration.
  • Work with the athletic administration personnel to produce monthly campaign progress reports and coordinate their dissemination to campaign, university, and volunteer leadership.
  • Provide opportunities for teams and staff members to engage in community events.

Service Orientation

  • Design, develop, and implement effective recruitment strategies.
  • Meet with 10 local businesses each month and develop partnerships with these businesses to benefit the whole Athletic Department.
  • Make follow-up thank-you calls to donors
  • Make calls to confirm RSVPs to events and appointments
  • Assist with development and alumni events

Communication, Collaboration, and Teamwork

  • Provide instruction of physical health, team concepts, and safety.
  • Provide strong and affirmative leadership for all athletes.
  • Coordinate and track all signage and sponsorship sales for the Athletic Department.
  • Communicate with coaches on signage and sponsorship sales deadlines, be knowledgeable on renewal cycles, and collect and track all approval paperwork.
  • Send regular reminders to the coaches regarding the signage and sponsorship sales.
  • Make phone calls to potential donors and setup follow-up meetings.
  • Assist with travel related expense reports
  • Assist Athletic Director in emails and other correspondence with alumni, clubs and Alumni Board.
  • Communicate with the Sports Information Director when teams are engaging with the community.
  • Keep track of all community engagement efforts throughout the year.

Planning, Organizing, and Accountability

  • Coordinate team activities, such as practices, team workouts, and other events.
  • Assist in planning and organizing development and alumni events
  • Assist at the events described above

Initiative, Problem-Solving, and Decision Making

  • Design instructions for individual student athletes and for specific team needs.
  • Research and target schools and athletic camps for recruitment.
  • Ability to make a decision quickly when a problem arises.
  • Complete bi-weekly and monthly reports

Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.  (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Prior coaching experience is required.
