Penn State Altoona, a public related institution invites candidates for the job of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for the management of all aspects of the men’s basketball program. Duties include, but will not be limited to game coaching, recruitment of student athletes, scheduling, practice sessions, coordination of scouting and film exchange, team travel, equipment, counseling student-athletes and the supervision of assistant coaches. In addition duties include public relations, fundraising and promotional responsibilities. Other responsibilities, according to credentials, may include academic, strength training or other administrative responsibilities. Ability to physically demonstrate complex movements and skills on the practice fields required. Candidate must have demonstrated success as a men’s basketball coach at the college or an equivalently high level, including evidence of successful student retention and team success. Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and develop Division III student-athletes, knowledge of the sport and a verifiable ability to teach both fundamentals and strategies of the game is necessary. This person must possess a working knowledge of NCAA rules, a commitment to high academic standards, and the NCAA Division III philosophy. A successful candidate will have a reputation for integrity. Penn State Altoona is a four-year campus/college within The Pennsylvania State University, a member of the NCAA Division III, Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
