he Head Coach JV/Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach is primarily responsible for all daily operations of the Junior Varsity basketball program and to assist the Head Coach with the successful development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the men’s basketball program. The Head JV Coach/Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach position recruits and develops students, creating an environment in which the team can use its skills and abilities to their maximum potential, and develops a positive image for the college and the team. This individual is also responsible for the academic and life skills development of student-athletes.
Essential Functions

- Be responsible for knowing and following appropriate policies and guidelines of NAIA and Lincoln College Athletic Department in all areas, including:
a. Assuming coaching responsibilities of the JV and Varsity basketball team at each contest
b. Recruitment of quality student athletes for JV and Varsity programs
c. Organization of all practices, conditioning programs and try-outs
d. Pre-participatory physicals for each participant
e. Selection and supervision of team members and support personnel (team managers and statisticians)
f. Game schedules (including recognition nights)
g. Evaluation of athletes’ academic progress and eligibility
h. Monitoring of student injuries and rehabilitation
i. Maintenance and security of team equipment, supplies, and uniforms
2. Supervision of support personnel (managers/statisticians).
3. General administrative duties related to the team functioning, including:
a. Travel itinerary preparation
b. Injury, recruiting, and statistics reports
c. Any necessary forms for student athletes (eligibility, letter awards, etc.)
d. Class excuses for team travel
e. Study Hall and Academic Programs for athletes
f. Team meal plan implementation
g. Assistance with media relations for the team
h. Athletic fundraising
4. Oversight of Junior Varsity Basketball program operations and recruitment.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree
2. The ability to establish a good rapport and effective working relationships with student-athletes, parents, administrators, faculty, staff and the community.
3. Proven recruiting skills; success recruiting high level student-athletes.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
2. CPR and AED Certification required.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred
1. Master’s degree
2. Prior basketball head coaching experience is highly desirable.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office and gymnasium environment and routinely uses standard office computers, physical education equipment and weight training apparatus.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include standing for sustained periods of time, walking, reaching, talking, and hearing.
Candidates must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
