Description:
Calvin College is seeking a Head Men’s Basketball Coach to join our Athletic program! This Head Coach is responsible for directing, leading and mentoring the men’s basketball program in a variety of activities related to the successful operation of the athletic team and program and contributing to the Athletic/Kinesiology department in a secondary role. This requires an understanding and commitment to the mission of Calvin College, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and an ability to work with students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff, administrators, and outside contacts.
 

  • Recruiting student-athletes within the philosophy, rules and guidelines of Calvin College, MIAA, and the NCAA.
  • Counseling and mentoring student-athletes in athletic, academic, and personal development.
  • Conditioning programs that prepare the athletes for high level competition and stillreflect the philosophy and guidelines of the college.
  • Sport specific skills and drills
  • Ability to analyze skills and game/contest situations and develop strategies for sport-specific participation
  • Calvin athletic philosophy and policies
  • Rules and guidelines that apply to the specific sport
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates independent judgment
  • Ability to plan and organize own work, referring questionable situations to the Director of Athletics and/or the Senior Associate AD as deemed necessary
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
