Central State University athletics department is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Coach Men’s Basketball. The recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes in this sport will be integral to this position. The head coach is responsible for all aspects that relate to the Men’s Basketball program to include the ongoing development of the student-athlete. The head coach will also be expected to demonstrate the ability to promote the physical, intellectual, and social growth of student-athletes. The head coach will represent Central State University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character while respecting the rights and dignity of each student-athlete. The head coach also must display sensitivity to diversity issues and shall work to create an inclusive and welcoming environment. The head coach will be a positive ambassador for Central State University athletics department and must build strong relationships with institutional colleagues and the community.

This position will also include additional administrative duties and will be assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.

A thorough knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations of Central State University and the NCAA Division II are imperative.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate an effective philosophy to promote the educational welfare and sportsmanship of the student-athlete in alignment with the mission of the university
  • Monitor academic progress and the retention of students affiliated with the Men’s Basketball program, implementing action plans in collaboration with the Faculty Athletic Representative and Student Academic Support Services office
  • Assume responsibility for sportsmanship, conduct, and academic progress of all students and staff affiliated with the Men’s Basketball program
  • Direct Men’s Basketball staff in the overall planning and execution of the Men’s Basketball program
  • Monitor and maintain the conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the University
  • Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and Conference regulations
  • Develop and implement game strategy
  • Manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative activities for the Men’s Basketball program
  • Promote the athletic program and specific sport through attending community events, public speaking, fundraising, revenue generation, and marketing
  • Comply with NCAA, conference, and Central State University rules, regulations, and policies
  • Must have an appreciation and understanding of NCAA Division II athletic philosophy
  • Coordinates individual player development workout and strength training
  • Must possess high integrity, a commitment to excellence, loyalty and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people
  • Recruitment of academically qualified student-athletes who can compete at the NCAA Division II level
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Must be available for team travel including weekends
  • Conduct pre-season and post-season conditioning
  • Must have the ability to lead the program
  • Must maintain certification in CPR/AED training
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Successful college coaching experience with proven track record
  • Demonstrated successful recruiting experience
