Concordia University Chicago invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The coach is responsible for planning, developing, and administering the men’s basketball program to achieve program, department, and university goals. This 12-month position includes, but is not limited to, directing all phases of a successful Division III program and ensuring compliance with CUC, NACC, and NCAA Division III rules. Individual must be able to recruit academically qualified and athletically competitive student-athletes and to motivate them to realize their potential in the classroom and on the field.

Responsibilities/Duties:  The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and direction of the Concordia University basketball program. The coach will also have responsibility in public relations. The duties of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach will include coaching, recruiting, supervision of assistant coaches, and overall responsibility for successful management of a high level NCAA Division III basketball program.

• Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recruiting and scouting activities.
• Analyze performance and instruct athletes in game techniques and strategies in preparation for and during athletics competition.
• Oversee general administration of the program with the Director of Athletics to ensure that prescribed procedures are followed and schedules are met.
• Prepare the annual budget structure and monitor expenditures in a fiscally responsible manner to maximize resources.
• Establish close relationships with student-athletes and maintain effective lines of communication.
• Establish a positive relationship between the current and alumni basketball players.

Skill Sets:  Because of the inherent visibility of collegiate athletics on campus and in the greater community, it is expected that the Head Coach will display excellent communication skills, Christian principles, and exhibit teamwork with other academic, student life and administrative divisions of the College and be an ardent supporter of the mission of the University.

Minimum Experience Required: Prior experience as a Head Men’s Basketball Coach at the high school or college level is preferred.  A commitment to continued professional growth and a commitment to the mission and values of a church-related liberal arts college are expected.

Education Requirements: A minimum of an Undergraduate Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
