To manage the daily operations pertaining to the NJCAA Men’s Team. The head coach will report to, and work with, the Managing Director of Athletics to further the institutional goals of the college. The individual must demonstrate the ability to lead a program with longstanding tradition of excellence in both athletics and academics with integrity and energy.
POSITION SUMMARY
- Effective oral and written skills, thorough knowledge of NJCAA rules and NCAA regulations, and the ability to work with students, faculty, staff, alumni, boosters, college administration and media outlets is required, and the ability to utilize technology to further the operations of the Athletics Office.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to drive a van long distance. Must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations, or a pattern of repeat violations.
- Must have a current CPR/First Aid certificate.
- Must have ability to lift equipment and materials required for game and events.
- Must be available on weekends and evenings when team travels to games/events. Must be available to hold practices 5 days a week for at least 2 hours.
- Candidate must have computer literacy and report scores, statistics, game highlights, award nominations and other sport information within the time frame as assigned by Director of Athletics.
- Must have the ability and time to recruit student-athletes. Instruct, teach and coach student- athletes during practice and competition. Plans practice and/or competition strategy.
- Conduct video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool.
- Ensures ongoing eligibility of student athletes in the Men’s Basketball program and monitors their academic program.
- Conducts inventories of uniforms, supplies and equipment to ensure effective maintenance of physical resources. Effectively uses fiscal resources to coordinate team travel and recruiting.
- Represents the College at conference, regional, state and national meetings relating specifically to Men’s Basketball.
- Works with the Managing Director of Athletics to provide accurate data for individual and team accomplishments, as well as game scores.
- Works with the Athletic Department to assure that athletic injuries are handled appropriately and in a timely fashion.
- Serves as an example of competitive but sportsmanlike conduct. Deals fairly and honestly with all persons concerned with the Bergen CC Athletics and Men’s Basketball team.
- Maintain compliance with all NJCAA Division III and College rules and regulations.
- Planning comprehensive pre and post season conditioning activities.
- Assist in team travel arrangements, fund raising activities.
- Provides reports and documentation when required by the Managing Director of Athletics.
- Report and address student concerns on a timely fashion through the use of one-on-one interaction and group meetings.
- Hiring, supervising, and evaluating personnel.
- Other duties as assigned by the Managing Director of Athletics.
POSITION’S WORK SCHEDULE
Flexible part-time schedule; arranged around coaching student athletes, recruiting, scheduled team practice and competition times, travel, and staff meetings. Must attend all national, regional and conference meetings that pertain to the sport of Men’s Basketball.
WORK EXPERIENCE: MINIMUM REQUIRED – Coaching or teaching experience, at least one-year Competitive Men’s Basketball experience
PREFERRED – Three years of experience coaching at the high school and/or college level. Experience in recruiting student-athletes is required.

Education: Associates is required, Bachelor’s preferred.
Compensation: Annual stipend within the range of $6,000-$9,000
