Incumbent is responsible for administering all aspect of a competitive Division III men’s basketball program, adhering to the guidelines and expectations that are set forth from Illinois College, the Midwest Conference and the NCAA. In addition to the day-to-day coaching, the Head Men’s Basketball coach is responsible for the organization of recruiting, scheduling, budget, travel coordination, game day staff management, equipment management, camps, and fundraising. The Head Men’s Basketball coach is expected to meet recruiting, retention and net tuition revenue goals and must follow all Illinois College, Midwest Conference and NCAA rules and bylaws. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics
Essential Functions

- Recruit, retain and graduate successful student-athletes
- Meet the recruitment, retention and net tuition revenue goals set by the College
- Complete operation of the men’s basketball program including: Plan season competition schedule; schedule officials and student workers for game day events, plan and conduct practice and budget management
- Ensure academic performance and personal development of student-athletes
- Collaborate with Early Intervention group
- Maintain a high level of professionalism on and off the court toward student athletes, other coaches, parents, administrators, and members of the community
- Supervise Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach(es)
- Monitor and manage Men’s Basketball budget
- Coordinate fundraising with Development and Alumni Affairs; Manage fundraising account
- Maintain a clear understanding and adhere to the NCAA and Midwest Conference bylaws
- Coordinate all hotel, travel and meal arrangements for the season
- Coordinate uniform distribution, purchase and maintenance
- Assist the coordinator of strength & conditioning with the operation and supervision of out of season strength & conditioning activities (if certified in strength & conditioning)
- Coordinate and host annual summer camps
- Serve on committees, as needed
- Additional administrative responsibilities will be assigned at the discretion of the Director of Athletics
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, required. Advanced degree, preferred
- Minimum of five years’ experience coaching intercollegiate basketball, required
- Valid driver’s license with evidence of insurability, required
- Knowledge of compliance with all NCAA, Midwest Conference and Illinois College rules and regulations
- Intercultural competency; ability to work with individual from diverse backgrounds
- Able to develop and maintain collaborative relationships, engage in creative problem-solving, and extend enlightened hospitality when working with others.
- Skills and experience in coaching and team motivation
- Appreciation for the value of a liberal arts experience and the philosophy of DIII athletics
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a goal‐oriented strategic thinker
- Passion and motivation to recruit and mentor student-athletes
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Possess an outcomes-oriented approach to coaching
- Professional integrity and a positive approach to conflict management/resolution
- First Aid and AED certification, preferred
- Strength and conditioning certification, preferred
- Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and some evenings
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
