The head coach position is responsible for running all aspects of the basketball program. Responsibilities include: recruitment, practice management, game management, academic advisement and monitoring, and fundraising for the men’s JALC basketball program. Travel throughout the region is required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Conduct a program that represents the philosophies of John A. Logan College
  • Assist in public relations and fundraising events conducted by the Athletic Department
  • Responsible for the conduct of the men’s basketball athletes when they are representing John A. Logan College
  • Supervise the athletic and academic progress of all basketball athletes
  • Schedule all basketball contests and submit the schedule to the athletic director
  • Conduct the basketball program within the confines of its budget and all College policies
  • Conduct well-organized practices and provide for the physical conditioning and skill training for each athlete
  • Develop, with the support of the Athletic Director, a relationship with faculty to communicate and interact in an appropriate manner to ensure student success
  • Submit all paperwork in a timely fashion such as physicals, rosters, fundraising requests, etc.
  • Responsible for the selection of Assistant Coaches who reflect the College’s core values and conduct standards
  • Assist athletes in transferring to four-year institutions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
