Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. This is a full time, 10-month reporting position with benefits. This coach will be responsible for directing a highly competitive NCAA D-III Men’s Basketball program in accordance and compliance with NCAA, NCAC, and Kenyon College policies and regulations. As the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the successful candidate will be responsible for all phases of strong leadership in managing a competitive college Men’s Basketball program: coaching, providing leadership for assistant coaches, scouting, recruiting, instructing, strength training & conditioning, arranging travel, managing budgets, tracking equipment and developing alumni contacts. Additional responsibilities will be assigned in game management, facility overview, teaching, and / or administration. It is also expected that the Head Men’s Basketball Coach embrace the department mission of fostering learning and developing community with a focus on the values of citizenship, competition, resiliency, sportsmanship, and teamwork within Kenyon’s unique campus culture. Essential Functions:
● Maintain a competitive program that is successful in NCAC conference play.
● Coach student-athletes to a high level of achievement with post season play as the goal of the program.
● Preserve and uplift the academic priorities of Kenyon College.
● Participate in the NCAC scheduling process and develop a strategy for non-conference.
● Schedule practice times in conjunction with the Women’s Basketball Coach and Facilities Director.
● Provide opportunities for Assistant Coaches, Captains and players to become scholars of the game of Basketball.
● Work with Athletics Communications to develop promotional and recruiting material.
● Maintain a healthy communication with other departments on campus, particularly admissions.
● Participate in campus wide events.
● Recruit academically and athletically strong applicants for admission to the selective, highly competitive application pool at Kenyon College utilizing ARMS software, including preparing promotional materials.
● Maintain excellent record keeping for all purchases and expenses for the program, to stay within the budget.
● Inventory and safety check all basketball specific equipment and uniforms.
● Work in conjunction with athletic trainers to maintain student-athlete welfare.
● Stay up-to-date with sport and coaching best practices in order to provide opportunities for all involved in the program to become students of the game by sharing knowledge of the sport.
● All coaches are assigned additional duties in the areas of facility and event /game management and teaching. These responsibilities are determined annually by Coordinator of Lifetime Fitness, Game / Event Manager, Facility Manager(s) and Director of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation.
Other Expectations:
● Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness and Recreation team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation at a fully residential campus housing 1800 undergraduate students.
● Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
● Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes.
● Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus
● Assist with special projects and duties, as needed.
● Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College’s and Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation policies and procedures as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations.
● Demonstrate a commitment to the Department of Athletics Student-athlete handbook, and the Student Affairs and College mission statements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
● Supervise one full time and one part time Assistant Coach.
Working Conditions: .
● Some heavy lifting / moving equipment is required.
● The working schedule is not traditional nor regular: early morning, day, late evenings, weekends are required, as may be work during college breaks and summers.
● Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings and convention/caucus attendance is required.
● The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
● Head Coaching experience preferred.
● Collegiate playing experience.
● Experience in recruitment of academically focused-student athletes is preferred.
● CPR, First Aid and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).
