Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina, an NCAA Division II member, seeks qualified candidates for its head men’s basketball coach vacancy. This position directs the development, strategic leadership, organization, and management of all phases of the men’s basketball program. Lenoir-Rhyne has a longstanding tradition of men’s basketball history, highlighted by winning 31 conference titles and advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2016. Lenoir-Rhyne won 31 Conference Championships and earned seven berths in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. Lenoir-Rhyne also underwent a comprehensive renovation to Shuford Arena, which serves as host to both men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball programs. In fall 2019, Lenoir-Rhyne opened a new Sports Performance Center that includes a state-of-the-art weight room with a turf training area, nutrition bar and dedicated team meeting space.
Duties and tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of the men’s basketball staff in the planning, organizing and coaching of the Lenoir-Rhyne men’s basketball team; ensure compliance with the university, conference, and NCAA policies and regulations.
- Direct the men’s basketball staff and student-athletes in the preparation of analyses of opponent teams; analyze game statistics and technical data of opponents and prepare game plans accordingly.
- Counsel and mentor student-athletes in academic, disciplinary and personal matters; consult with University staff and faculty for resolution of problems when required.
- Assign geographical areas to and supervise the men’s basketball staff in the recruitment of new players; determine recipients of men’s basketball scholarships in accordance with university admissions policies.
- Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds.
- Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, and promotions.
- Study, evaluate, and implement innovations in men’s basketball strategy, scheme, and equipment.
- Represent the Lenoir-Rhyne University athletic department in professional, civic and alumni events.
- Develop and execute a fundraising strategy in coordination with the director of the Bears Club to increase revenues to enhance the student-athlete experience.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein, as assigned by university administration, if mutually agreeable.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities include:
- Bachelors degree required
- Collegiate level coaching experience with a demonstrated understanding of NCAA Division II Rules with a preference for head coaching experience
- Demonstration of collegiate recruiting experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to develop a culture of excellence
- Strong communication, budgeting and administrative skills
