Description:

Manhattan College, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12 month, full-time position Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The Head Coach leads the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball program by recruiting and developing qualified student-athletes, supervising assistant coaches, and organizing schedules. The head coach must conduct the program in a manner that recognizes the primacy of academics by recruiting, supporting, and retaining student-athletes who will be competitive in non-conference and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The head coach must ensure that the Men’s Basketball program operates in compliance with all College, MAAC and NCAA rules and regulations,and will be an asset to promoting the Lasallian mission of the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership to the team in order to achieve academic, athletic, and social success on a consistent basis.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Athletics to develop annual goals for the program.
  • Set high expectations for student-athletes to achieve academic success.
  • Develop training programs that are safe and effective for student-athletes and their development.
  • Schedule games and practices in accordance with College policies,and Athletic Director’s approval.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements with Athletic Director.
  • Oversee the selection of team equipment and apparel in accordance with college branding and approval of the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate video analysis; develop game strategies.
  • Complete reports and maintain records as required.
  • Communicate with student-athletes and faculty regarding academic success, class schedules, study hall hours, tutors, and personal well being.
  • Coordinate recruitment of student-athletes; Identify and recruit talented, academically qualified prospective student-athletes; effectively communicate with high school coaches, prospects and parents.
  • Responsible for coordinating communication and interactions with prospective and enrolled student-athletes.
  • Maintain an environment that reflects the department’s commitment to excellence, integrity, respect, and leadership.
  • Communicate program’s needs and concerns responsibly and in a timely manner.
  • Attend workshops, training sessions, and meetings required for all head coaches by the College and the conference.
  • Responsible for administration of all phases of a Division I program, including recruiting, monitoring of budget, completing expense reports, fundraising, and conducting sports camps and/or clinics.
  • Participate in marketing and fundraising initiatives. Engage in special events to promote brand recognition and to generate interest within the College community, alumni, and region.
  • Oversee operational activities of assistant coaches and prepares annual evaluations for direct reports.
  • Conduct and maintain a program of integrity,
  • Responsible for successful graduation rates and APR scores.
  • Maintain consistent communication with administration,faculty,students and athletes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or President.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred.
  • Appropriate and progressive levels of coaching expertise.
  • Assertive, outgoing, hard-working and resourceful.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships and create partnerships with a wide range of constituent groups.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Required to travel and the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong attention to detail and keep specific timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with coaches, students, faculty, administration, alumni, and community.
  • Work with administration to promote the goals of the college.
