Primary Function:
Assist the Director of Athletics in aspects of the sports programs and coach the men’s basketball program of the University.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus two to three years of related experience in athletic administration and high school or college level coaching; experience including men’s basketball recruiting and coaching desired.

Duties:           

  1. Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the Department, the University, the River States Conference and the NAIA.
  2. Monitor academic progress of men’s basketball student-athletes; review transcripts and ensure compliance with NAIA rules and regulations.
  3. Schedule practice facilities and times; design and supervise practices both in-season and off-season; teach all necessary fundamentals of men’s basketball.
  4. Act as a liaison with the Financial Aid Office to determine financial aid eligibility of men’s basketball student-athletes.
  5. Recruit high school and transfer students for the University’s men’s basketball program; contact scouts, coaches, camp directors, alumni, etc.; returns calls and letters from interested candidates and/or visit them personally. All recruiting activities should be completed in a highly professional manner.
  6. Coordinate mailings related to the men’s basketball program; research and verify information used in bulk mailings.
  7. In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, develop itineraries for away game trips; coordinate travel, lodging and per diem expenses.
  8. In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, develop men’s basketball schedule.
  9. Provide budget recommendations to the Director of Athletics and manage expenditures to stay within approved amounts in both operations and scholarship budgets.
  10. Develop and implement sound disciplinary practices and policies which incorporate a high level of communication, consistency, and interim sanctioning steps when appropriate. Discussion with the Director of Athletics necessary in all discipline cases.
  11. In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, hire assistant coaches and identify volunteer assistant coaches while adhering to Point Park University human resource hiring policies.
  12. Supervise and evaluate assistant and volunteer coaches.
  13. Design, coordinate and oversee mandatory fundraising activities for the men’s basketball program.
  14. Design, coordinate and oversee community service projects for the men’s basketball program. At least one major project must occur each year. Adhere to the spirit and support all aspects of the Department’s Champions of Character program.
  15. Keep abreast of and implement new information and technologies such as visualizations, sports psychology, weight training, self-awareness techniques, etc., to improve the program.
  16. Attend one professional development activity each year. This activity must be approved by the Director of Athletics.
  17. Attend established awards ceremony at the end of each season.
  18. Schedule and attend various meetings.
  19. Prepare information for media relations; prepare information for mailings on men’s basketball camps; answer correspondence regarding questions on camps.
  20. Design programs and supervise personnel for camps.
  21. Develop and update policies and procedures covering the men’s basketball program or athletics program in general.
  22. Coordinate completely some administrative duty determined by the Director of Athletics.
  23. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
