The University of Maine Augusta is seeking applicants for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach.  This is a part-time, ten-month, temporary appointment beginning on July 1, 2020.  This appointment will end on May 1, 2021.

Duties include:

  • Coaching Men’s Basketball; planning and directing practice and games
  • Actively recruiting student athletes and recommending candidates for scholarships
  • Transporting players and support staff to games
  • Actively monitoring the academic progress of student athletes; supporting their academic success by engaging them in weekly study halls during the season and facilitating referrals to other student support resources
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety protocols, departmental policies, and University policies
  • Maintaining flexibility in a work schedule that will include days, evenings, and weekends, as needed.

Salary:  A typical salary is $8,500 total for the appointment period (July 1, 2020 through May 1, 2021).

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Ability to recruit student athletes
  • Ability to organize and supervise students
  • Ability to teach basketball and make it a positive educational experience
  • Demonstrated basketball coaching experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to be approved to operate a University vehicle and transport others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching at the University level
  • Experience fostering the personal growth and development of student athletes
  • Experience fostering the academic development of student athletes
