Description:

esponsible for the management and administration of an effective and efficient men’s basketball program. The position reports to the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience:  Minimum qualifications include the following:

  • Master’s degree
  • Previous experience coaching collegiate basketball.
  • Proven successful recruiting of student-athletes.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Knowledge of all aspects of the game of basketball.
  • Familiarity with university policies regarding athletics, Division II basketball programs, LoneStar Conference rules, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and administer a successful sports program

  • Recruiting and developing student-athletes who will successfully represent the institution academically and athletically.
  • Scheduling and organizing practice and contests in accordance with applicable Lonestar Conference and NCAA regulations.
  • Attending and coaching all games and practices.
  • Administering sports program budget in line with the guidelines provided by the Athletics Department and the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration.
  • Coordinating procurement of uniforms and equipment.
  • Making travel arrangements.
  • Keeping abreast and ensuring compliance with the Lonestar Conference and NCAA regulations while maintaining highest ethical standards of conduct.
  • Supervising assistant coaches and other program personnel.

2. Monitor and foster student-athletes’ well-being and academic success

  • Monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress in collaboration with the Faculty Athletics Representative and campus advising offices to ensure progress towards degree completion.
  • Fostering student-athletes’ well-being through provision of a safe and a non-discriminatory environment.
  • Ensuring positive student-athlete experience for all athletes in the program.

3. Support operations of the UAFS Athletics Department and UAFS campus community

  • Participate in department meetings and events.
  • Teach up to 3 hours per fall and spring semester in area of advanced degree if needed.
  • Assist with other sports event management as needed and assigned.
  • Assist and serve on committees and sub-committees as needed.
