Join our pack as UIndy’s Men’s Head Basketball Coach! This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the VP for Athletics. The Men’s Head Basketball Coach will direct all phases of the day-to-day operations of the University of Indianapolis men’s basketball program, including effective coaching and student-athlete development; successful recruiting, retention, and graduation of high performing student-athletes; preparation, organization, and implementation of effective player development systems; and a commitment to community engagement and effective public relations. The head coach will conduct the sports program within the rules and guidelines established by the University of Indianapolis, the NCAA, and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Qualifications- Head Men’s Basketball Coach

  • 6 years of collegiate, high school, or professional coaching and recruiting experience (with demonstrated proficiency in successfully recruiting, retaining, and graduating high-performing men’s basketball student athletes)
  • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Master’s degree preferred
  • NCAA required testing
  • CPR Training (within 90 days of hire)
  • Additional qualifications include a commitment to the philosophy of NCAA Division II level intercollegiate athletics and a dedication to the mission and the policies of the University of Indianapolis, the department of athletics, and NCAA compliance. The incumbent must have quality writing and speaking skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with student-athletes, parents, faculty, administrators and outside constituents. Sound fiscal, workflow, and resource management skills are required.

Responsibilities- Head Men’s Basketball Coach

  • Directly responsible for the oversight, content, and organization of the program.
  • Directly responsible for the teaching of all offenses, defenses, fundamentals and techniques, game strategies, and knowledge of all aspects of the sport.
  • Directly responsible for teaching team and individual compliance with training rules and operating policies which govern the intercollegiate sport program.
  • Responsible for educating others and supporting the NCAA Division II Strategic Plan.
  • Responsible for providing input and working cooperatively with the V.P. for Athletics/or designee(s) in budgeting, requisitioning, accounting for and storing of all athletic equipment and supplies needed and used in the sport program.
  • Directly responsible for their own personal conduct and for that of their staff according to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the University, NCAA and Conference regulations governing intercollegiate athletics, and department operating procedures established by the athletics administration.
  • Responsible for adhering to all medical decisions and placing the student-athlete’s health and welfare above winning.
  • Actively recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes in accordance with the philosophy of the University of Indianapolis and in strict adherence to University, NCAA and Conference regulations. Teach potential recruits the value of the UIndy experience.
  • Support the student-athlete’s academic responsibilities, provide support, guidance and required study table when necessary for the success of the student-athlete.
  • Recognize that the V.P. for Athletics (or designee) is the head coach’s immediate supervisor in all matters pertaining to athletics.
  • Constantly educate, monitor, control, and supervise the conduct and behavior of the studentathletes in the programs to reflect favorably on themselves, their families, and the University of Indianapolis.
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities assigned by the V.P. for Athletics (or designee).
  • Directly responsible for own professional development, and for the development of his/her staff, for attending appropriate professional meetings, and for keeping abreast of current trends and developments in his/her sport program and in other related areas to perform his/her duties more effectively.
  • Actively engaged in the overall assessment of self, coaching staff, and administration through the annual evaluation process.
  • Continually educate and strive to enhance the image of the University of Indianapolis Athletics Department and its programs through interpersonal
