The University of Rio Grande, home of the legendary Bevo Francis, is seeking a full-time Head Coach of Men’s Basketball. Reporting directly to the Athletic Director, the Head Coach is responsible for coaching/teaching the sport and coordinating and implementing all aspects of the program including: scouting, recruiting, budget management, practice planning, game preparation, scheduling, team travel, equipment/apparel purchasing, staff supervision, academic monitoring, and general supervision of student-athletes. The RedStorm basketball program is a member of NAIA and completes in the River States Conference. The position is open immediately.

JOB PURPOSE:

The position is responsible for recruiting and coaching student-athletes. The coach will work significantly with the student-athletes and athletic director to provide leadership to help our student/athletes grow both in the academic area and the competitive area. The coach will also work with other head coaches, admissions and financial aid staff and other campus employees to ensure a positive student/athlete experience at the University of Rio Grande.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate a successful philosophy to promote the educational welfare and sportsmanship of the student-athlete.
  • Prepare a yearly budget for the basketball program.
  • Purchase equipment and uniforms, and maintaining records of all purchases.
  • Insure that all basketball players meet NAIA eligibility requirements and prepare eligibility information to be sent to the Compliance Officer at the University of Rio Grande.
  • Develop a basketball schedule.
  • Make all travel arrangements for the team and recruiting.
  • Develop fundraisers to improve the basketball program.
  • Develop a recruitment plan and actively recruit student/athletes.
  • Develop and actively participate in a plan to enhance public relations for the basketball program.
  • Track the progress of each player in all classes.
  • Establish and maintain an ethical and moral code of behavior and living that is expected of the players that are residing on campus.
  • Develop practice schedules and work with other teams to schedule facility use.
  • Conduct the Champions of Character Program with Student Athletes, Lead the Student/Athlete Leadership Council
  • Support the philosophy and mission of the College.
  • Actively participate in related consortiums, partnerships, organizations, River States Conference meetings, etc.
  • Informing the Athletic Director of all planning, organizing, staff and development of the men’s basketball program.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with at least 3 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
