Description:

The head coach for men’s basketball reports directly to the director of Athletics.  The coach will direct and manage the daily operations of an NCAA Division III intercollegiate program competing in the Northwest Conference (NWC).  The individual’s responsibilities include, but not limited to, supervision of assistant coaching staff, recruitment of student-athletes to meet university and department objectives, development and coaching of students-athletes for successful competitive results, and coordinating the administrative and public relations needs of the program.   Other responsibilities to include organization of sport specific summer camp(s) and serve in an administrative role within the Athletics Department. Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinates, directs and supervises all aspects of an intercollegiate men’s basketball program, including recruitment of qualified student-athletes, team selection, organizing and conducting practices, scheduling contests, facility oversight, budget preparation and control, equipment purchases and maintenance, travel arrangements, safety and risk management, hiring and educating assistants, public relations, and fundraising.
  • Serve in an administrative role within athletic department.
  • Teaches in the physical education activities program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise assistant coaches

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
  • Three years previous of related experience with a successful record of coaching and recruiting at the collegiate level desirable;
  • An understanding of, and appreciation to the NCAA Division III philosophy, rules, and regulations;
  • Commitment to academic achievement and a liberal arts education;
  • Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes by demonstrating competent knowledge of sport, skill development and assessment, as well as game preparation and execution;
  • Strong organizational, administrative and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse constituencies and promote an inclusive working and programmatic environment;
  • Ability to travel, work evenings and weekends required.
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
