Description:

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Men’s Basketball designs and implements the strength and conditioning program; conducts and monitors the strength and conditioning program; assists with rehabilitation of injured athletes; manages the strength and conditioning facility and assists the players and the team as needed. This position reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Student Health & Performance, in consultation with the Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Creation and implementation of all strength and conditioning programs for the Men’s Basketball program, including student-athlete assessments/testing, charting workouts, and reporting student-athlete progress to the Head Coach.
  • Maintain a safe and effective training program with a focus on the health and performance of the student-athlete.
  • Oversee a staff of four (4) full-time strength coaches and interns.
  • Collaborate with the Sports Medicine department in designing injury prevention and injury reconditioning programs; provide injury monitoring and mitigation information.
  • Collaborate with the Sports Nutrition department in program implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Sport Science department for monitoring, technology, and research.
  • Collaborate with the Mental Health and Mental Performance department to provide a safe and positive training environment while giving support to student athletes.
  • Assist with game day management; Implement all warm-up routines and methods for games and competition, including practices.
  • Instruct student-athletes on effective, proper, and safe strength and conditioning techniques and use of equipment.
  • Administer the strength and conditioning program in compliance with all University and NCAA rules.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate AD for Health and Performance and Head Coach.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science or a related field
  • Two (2) years of experience leading the strength and conditioning program for a Division I men’s basketball program.
  • Proficient knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Proficient knowledge of strength and conditioning equipment and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with all Olympic lifts and variations.
  • Working knowledge of conditioning, speed, and agility training.
  • Working knowledge of modern periodization models.
  • Previous work experience at a NCAA Division I program.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor degree in Physical Education, Exercise Physiology or a related field and eight years of related experience with four years’ experience as a weight/strength coach at the college level, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) or strength and conditioning coach certified (SCCC). CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
